Development and Application of the Lift-Tilt type eVTOL Sizing Tool, evtolAD

Abstract
KARI(Korea Aerospace Research Institute) is developing a design framework for the conceptual and preliminary design of eVTOL aircraft. As part of this effort, they have developed the evtolAD software, a sizing tool for Lift-Tilt concept eVTOLs featuring tilt props and lift props, based on the open-source SUAVE package. For this development, they have enhanced thrust calculations, mission segments, and automatic trim calculation algorithms. Leveraging the OPPAV development experience, they reviewed and supplemented the weight modeling functions of the SUAVE package. For the sizing of a 6-seater eVTOL aircraft, they presented the top-level requirements and mission profiles. They applied these requirements to scale up the OPPAV design and presented the results of the scaled-up configuration, including weight breakdown, flight conditions in mission profiles, aerodynamics, performance, and electric energy history.
