A Study on Comparison of the Terrain Following Trajectory Generation Algorithm using Radar Scan Data

Abstract
This paper compares algorithms for generating terrain following(TF) trajectories using radar scan data. The methods utilizing 3-mask morphology method and the circular path, employing the brute-force method with the circular path, and using the Neighbor Point Re-positioning(NPR) algorithm are compared. These methods use the terrain profile generated from the radar scan data as input and produce TF trajectories that satisfies the considerations of each TF trajectory generation algorithm. The trajectory generation simulations were conducted in two cases: one where a 4km terrain profile is given as input and another where a 4km terrain profile is given every 2km of flight. A tracking simulation was also conducted to compare the reference trajectories generated by each algorithm with the tracking trajectories produced by a 2-dimensional particle kinematic model following guidance commands. Based on the simulation results, the characteristics of each algorithm were analyzed and compared.
